A Provincial Chaplaincy Conference was held in Stirling, addressed by the Primus, the Most Rev Dr Idris Jones, who gave a presentation which put chaplaincy into the context of the Scottish Episcopal Church. He said:
"There is a sense in which all those engaged in any kind of chaplaincy today are like the mendicant friars who through the years have been on the 'front line', in contact with people in pain and need and from whom the church in general has become distanced. Chaplaincy is about reaching out, coming alongside people where they are. If that is a statement of an ideal not just for Chaplains but also for the whole church and for all the baptised, then the task remains as to how to allow it to develop and flourish."
It was agreed that a Chaplaincy Network would be helpful to encourage and facilitate communication amongst and between people who are involved in chaplaincy ministry in the SEC. If you would be interested in joining this Network, please get in contact with Margaret Sloan at the General Synod Office.
