Our Sacred Earth: Living Environmental Justice

Many creation care resources are available online. In addition to those discussed below, please see the environmental links on our Justice, Peace & Creation Care Links page.

United Nations Human Development Report 2007-08

An excerpt from the UN report Fighting Climate Change: Human solidarity in a divided world:

"Climate change is the defining human development challenge of the 21st Century. Failure to respond to that challenge will stall and then reverse international efforts to reduce poverty. The poorest countries and most vulnerable citizens will suffer the earliest and most damaging setbacks, even though they have contributed least to the problem. Looking to the future, no country - however wealthy or powerful - will be immune to the impact of global warming."

Eco-Congregation Scotland

Many Christians are concerned about the environment but don't know what they can do. Eco-Congregation Scotland is an ecumenical programme to help congregations understand environmental issues and make appropriate practical and spiritual responses. The programme's material is to be enhanced this year to incorporate modules on how to begin to respond to some of the most critical issues behind climate change.

Please see Eco-Congregation News for the organisation's latest newsletters and other resources.

Justice, Diakonia and Responsibility for Creation

Justice, Diakonia and Responsibility for Creation is an ecumenical commitment to justice and enabling people to transform their own lives involves meeting immediate human need, enabling churches to work together to address the structural roots of injustice, and also helping them to identify and combat threats to creation itself.

Operation Noah

Operation Noah is an inclusive group of committed Christians from across Britain welcoming people of faith, and none. It was founded in 2001 by Christian Ecology Link (CEL) and later became a joint project of of CEL and the Environmental Issues Network of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI).

Stop Climate Change Chaos Scotland

Stop Climate Change Chaos Scotland believes that civil society organisations - environment and development groups, faith groups, humanitarian organisations, women’s groups, trade unions and many others - are in a unique position to mobilise public concern, and through this the necessary political action, to stop climate chaos. By working together in a diverse, broad-based coalition it believes we can deliver results that none of us can achieve alone. Nothing on this scale has been attempted before on climate change, but anything less is unlikely to be successful.

Prayer for the Week

Friday 16 May 2008

'Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life: raise us, who trust in him, from the death of sin to the life of righteousness, that we may seek those things which are above, where he reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.'
