- Monday 07 November 2011We are called to seek just treatment for those most vunerable in hard economic times
- The Occupy Movement which has arisen in cities across the world is a sign of the deep impact of the continuing economic crisis. The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says “The Occupy Movement has the potential to become a 'people movement' which challenges our society to debate and explore the values on which our future economic life will be built. There is a widespread feeling that issues regarding the banking and financial sector have not yet been firmly or adequately addressed by governments. The concern of churches with these issues is rooted in the teaching of Jesus. We believe that we are called to be concerned for the poor and to seek just treatment for those who are most vulnerable in hard economic times.

- Thursday 13 October 2011Primus discusses relationship between Church and State
- In his weblog www.bishopdavid.net The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church discusses the relationship between Church and State in light of the controversy surrounding the Scottish Government’s consultation on same sex marriage and other related issues. In referring to the Scottish Episcopal Church’s response to the consultation on same sex marriage, Bishop David says “The definition of marriage set out in our Canons is that, ‘marriage is a physical, spiritual and mystical union of one man and one woman’. That is the position of our church. It’s a difficult issue for us – as it is for all churches and faith groups. We have among our membership people who feel passionately that change is needed – and those who feel equally strongly that we should resist any attempt to broaden society’s understanding of marriage. The consultation period is very short Among the things we shall say will be that if – and it’s a big ‘if’ – we were to consider changing our canonical definition of marriage, that would require a two-year process in our General Synod, the outcome of which could not be predicted with any certainty."

- Tuesday 25 January 2011Primates’ Meeting, Dublin 25th- 30th January 2011
- The Most Rev David Chillingworth, bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says: "I am looking forward to taking part in the Primates' Meeting this week. I hope that members of our Church will hold this meeting in their prayers throughout the week. This will be the first opportunity for me to meet the Primates of other provinces of the Anglican Communion. I know that there is sensitivity in the Communion about the role of the Primates - a sensitivity in particular that they should not become a powerful group at the centre of Communion life. But our Communion with its 'bonds of affection' thrives on warm relationships of mutual understanding and sympathy. The relationships between those who exercise leadership in the Provinces must be a critical element of that network of relationship.

- Monday 24 May 2010Primus comments on Synthetic Biology
- In responding to headlines about recent advances in synthetic biology The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says “The creation of a Synthetic Cell marks a significant step forward in scientific research. It promises an enticing range of possible outcomes: new bio-fuels, clean water, new ways of cleaning up pollution, new vaccines and drugs, new sources of food. For our overcrowded planet, such possibilities are a tempting prospect. It is all too easy either to over-hype the possibilities or to reach for doom-laden language about scientists 'playing God'.
