Primates’ Meeting, Dublin 25th- 30th January 2011
- The Most Rev David Chillingworth, bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says: "I am looking forward to taking part in the Primates' Meeting this week. I hope that members of our Church will hold this meeting in their prayers throughout the week. This will be the first opportunity for me to meet the Primates of other provinces of the Anglican Communion. I know that there is sensitivity in the Communion about the role of the Primates - a sensitivity in particular that they should not become a powerful group at the centre of Communion life. But our Communion with its 'bonds of affection' thrives on warm relationships of mutual understanding and sympathy. The relationships between those who exercise leadership in the Provinces must be a critical element of that network of relationship.

Dean of Moray, Ross & Caithness responds to RAF Kinloss closure
- Responding to the Government’s defence and security review and the announcement that RAF Kinloss is to close, the Very Rev Cliff Piper Dean of Moray, Ross & Caithness says “the closure of RAF Kinloss will have a devastating impact on the communities surrounding it, not just in economic terms but also in the special relationship the base and the local communities have shared over many years. Families of those serving in the base are very much part of the community, especially in Forres and Elgin. Given that RAF Kinloss is one of only two Nimrod bases in the UK a number of personnel have spent two or more terms of service at Kinloss, resulting in a closer relationship with the local communities than is experienced by other military bases. The loss in the community that this closure will bring is simply immeasurable.”

End of Life Assistance (Scotland) Bill
- The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says:
“The College of Bishops made a submission to the End of Life Assistance (Scotland) Committee in May 2010 on the issues raised by the End of Life Assistance [Scotland] Bill.
“The submission recognises the differing views which are held among members of our Church. It draws on resolutions of the Lambeth Conference 1998 and contributions on this subject from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
“The view of the Bishops is that they would be reluctant to see moves to enshrine the right to die through assisted suicide formally enshrined in legislation. However they draw attention to the underlying meaning of 'euthanasia' as 'dying well.' The Church is committed to supporting the hospice movement and to compassionate care of those who face debilitating illnesses which erode human dignity and well-being.'

Primus condemns planned Koran burning by American pastor
- The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunked & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says “The burning of holy books is one of the most extreme manifestations of religious intolerance. It dishonours and devalues the faith of those who hold these texts as sacred. I unreservedly condemn the actions of those who plan to attack the Islamic community by desecrating their scriptures. Those who threaten to do this should be aware that, in today's world, this will be seen also as a cultural and political provocation and may put at risk the lives of innocent people."
