Primus’ Charge to General Synod 2010
- General Synod 2010 got underway with the opening Eucharist Service during which the Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church delivered his Charge. The Primus' Charge is available as a PDF document to download.

Annual Gift Day to support Community Fund
- An annual Gift Day takes place on the last Sunday in June, when a special collection is taken within each church of the Scottish Episcopal Church for the Church's Community Fund. A leaflet giving details of The Community Fund (in PDF format) is available to download.

General Synod 2010
- Representatives from Episcopal Churches across Scotland will gather in Edinburgh from 10-12 June for the annual meeting of the General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church. Throughout the three day gathering, matters ranging from social issues to church policy will be debated.
Topics this year will include:
an update on the processes of the Anglican Communion Covenant;
a gender Audit report on the Church;
a report from the Church’s Rural Commission on issues affecting people living in rural areas of Scotland and the role of the Church in responding to these issues;
a call for theological and practical responses to the sustainability of the environment;
a major review of the Church’s mission and ministry policy.

Ceremony marks transfer of ownership of St Serf’s Care Home
- The Transfer of ownership of St Serf’s Care home from the Scottish Episcopal Church to new owners Fergus and Jenny Thain was marked in a ceremony on Friday 4 June. The transfer of St Serf’s Care Home to St Serf’s Care Home Limited, a subsidiary company of Acre Care Homes Limited (a family business owned by Fergus and Jenny Thain) was finalised at the end of May 2010 following the Care Commission granting approval for registration of the new St Serf’s company.

Edinburgh 2010
- The Archbishop of York and General Secretary of the World Council of Churches will be preaching at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh on Sunday 6 June.
As part of the Edinburgh 2010 celebrations BBC Radio 4 will broadcast a live service from St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh on Sunday 6 June at 0810; The Archbishop of York, the Most Rev Dr John Sentamu will be preaching. The Rev Dr Olav Fyske Tveit, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, will be preaching at the regular 10.30am service at the Cathedral on Sunday 6th June. www.cathedral.net.

Primus comments on Synthetic Biology
- In responding to headlines about recent advances in synthetic biology The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says “The creation of a Synthetic Cell marks a significant step forward in scientific research. It promises an enticing range of possible outcomes: new bio-fuels, clean water, new ways of cleaning up pollution, new vaccines and drugs, new sources of food. For our overcrowded planet, such possibilities are a tempting prospect. It is all too easy either to over-hype the possibilities or to reach for doom-laden language about scientists 'playing God'.

Episcopal Election - Argyll & The Isles
- The Electoral Synod met yesterday (13 May 2010) and adjourned after discussion. The result of this is that the right of election will lapse to the Episcopal Synod, as provided in Canon 4 of the Church's Code of Canons.

Primus comments on General Election
- In commenting on the present outcome of the General Election The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says "We pray regularly for our political leaders. This is a moment at which they particularly need our support in prayer. A gruelling election campaign is going to be followed by a difficult period of discussion before the shape of the next government will emerge. But we also give thanks that the election campaign was able to draw forth a new interest and engagement from people across the community - a sign of new health in our political process."

A first for Lay Readers in Scotland
- 60 Lay Readers from across Scotland will meet this weekend at Tulliallan for a 48-hour Conference, sponsored by the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway. This is the first time such a gathering has been held in the Scottish Episcopal Church.

“by casting our vote we let our voices be heard, we demonstrate the importance of our values”
- Church leaders have given their support to an open letter sent recently to various newspapers by the Scottish Inter Faith Council. The letter gives a sign of their unity in encouraging members of the electorate to take seriously their democratic duties and stresses that "by casting our vote we let our voices be heard, we demonstrate the importance of our values and our belief in the common good."

New Bishop of Glasgow & Galloway to be consecrated in Cathedral ceremony
- The Very Rev Dr Gregor Duncan will be consecrated and installed as the new Bishop of Glasgow & Galloway in a special service in St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow on Friday 23 April at 6.30pm. (Please note that due to restrictions on seating availability, attendance at the Service of Consecration is by invitation only.) Gregor Duncan has been serving as Rector of St Ninian’s Church, Pollokshields for 11 years and Dean of the Diocese of Glasgow & Galloway for 14 years.
