The Provincial Conference planned for 2 to 4 October 2009 at the McDonald Highland Resort, Aviemore has had to be cancelled.
Unfortunately we have not had the required number of applications to ensure that the conference would be viable both financially and numerically. We are not sure why this is so but we shall be seeking feedback from the dioceses. It is probable that the current economic climate has played its part. It could also be that residential conferences no longer are attractive and other ways may need to be found to gather people. We were very encouraged that 135 people had shown an interest in the conference and the Planning Group will give consideration to whether a recommendation should be made at some future point that a wider gathering in the Scottish Episcopal Church might still be appropriate, perhaps in the form of a day conference.
We have invested quite heavily in the excellent training of the group facilitators and we are hopeful that they will each have a place within their own dioceses as theological facilitators available to congregations and other groups.
Therefore, some good things have been learned and we know that at Aviemore we have a superb venue that a future conference can seriously consider.
The Planning Group is very disappointed but not downhearted. All in the end is harvest!
