General Synod - Saturday 11 June

Posted Saturday 11 June 2011

Following Morning Office, the business of Synod started with a presentation from the Convener of the Doctrine Committee, the Rev Professor David Jasper who spoke about the latest Grosvenor Essay - Thinking the Nicene Creed: Incarnation.  He told Synod that the Doctrine Committee intends to produce a study guide to the Grosvenor Essays.  He also spoke about the Committee’s work with the Arts Chaplaincy.

This was followed by the Rev Darrren McFarland, Convener of the Liturgy Committee, who spoke about The Service of the Word, which the College of Bishops has approved for an experimental period of 2 years (2011-2013).  Mr McFarland also gave Synod an update of the proposed work on a new Eucharistic Rite.

Mr Michael Lugton introduced the Administration Board session and then introduced reports from the Investment, Personnel and Buildings Committees Conveners.

Mr David Palmer led the final session of business by presenting Motion 17 That this Synod, having examined the proposed budgets for the General Synod for the year 2012, agree to a quota figure of £621,017 for that year.   The Motion was carried.

The Primus then confirmed the Acts of Synod, and General Synod 2011 came to a close. ‘Synod Summary’, giving an overview of General Synod 2011 will be available soon.
