In a letter to the Most Rev Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu, Primate of The Nippon Sei Ko Kai & Bishop of Hokkaido; the Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says:
“We watch the pictures of the devastation of Japan with horror and distress. The scale of the disaster is beyond our comprehension. The cost in human loss and suffering is incalculable.
“After our contact at the Primates’ Meeting, we feel closer to you - and to your clergy and people - as you attempt to bring comfort and relief to suffering people in the name of Christ.
“We send to you the assurance of the prayers of our people in the days that lie ahead. The task will often seem impossible. May God strengthen and uphold you.”
