The Most Rev Dr Idris Jones, Bishop of Glasgow & Galloway and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says “As Christians gather in worship we celebrate the way in which the birth of Jesus makes access to God open to all. ‘This is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us.’ That love of God is for all humankind and we are bound into an equality of need and the chance to respond. The Christmas story makes this real in a number of ways.
In response to the comments made by Pope Benedict XVI in his end of year address to Vatican staff, the Primus says “I am disappointed that in his speech to Vatican staff this week the leader of the Worldwide Catholic Church has chosen to make no mention of the humanitarian crises in Africa and other places nor made reference to the global concern for the welfare of all children.
“For many Christians, the significance of Christmas is the inclusion of all within the love of God.”
