Why Lifelong Learning? TISEC is committed to providing learning opportunities not just for the clergy and approved ministries but for the whole people of God.
This is in line with recent publications of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Anglican Communion and reflects the way education has changed over the past few years. This emphasis on providing learning opportunities for all can also be seen in the Scottish Government publication The Lifelong Learning Strategy for Scotland, published n February 2003.
The role of TISEC in this area of lifelong learning is through two ways. The first is through the Lifelong Lay Learning Project Officer whose role is primarily to support and resource the Dioceses in their work in Lay Learning. This is done in a number of ways including regular meetings with Diocesan representatives in the area of lay learning. He is also available to meet with representatives from the Dioceses and, if invited, to attend Diocesan events.
The second way of support is through a new development which is the offering of the Certificate in Christian Studies (accreditation by York St John University pending). This course which is modular can be taken for interest or credit. Although provided Provincially the certificate is delivered by the Dioceses.
