Dean of Argyll & The Isles appointed Depute Lieutenant

August 11, 2016

The Very Rev Andrew Swift, the Rector of Holy Trinity Dunoon and St Paul’s Rothesay and Dean of the Diocese of Argyll and The Isles has been appointed Depute Lieutenant for Dunoon and East Cowal by HM Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, Patrick Stewart. The appointment follows the retirement of the previous depute for Dunoon and East Cowal, Mrs Morag Smith DL.

The Lord Lieutenant is appointed to represent the Sovereign in his or her Lieutenancy and their Depute Lieutenants represent them on occasions when the Lord Lieutenant is unable to attend. The Lieutenancy’s roles include arranging and hosting Royal Visits, presenting and encouraging nominations for honours and awards and involvement with the military: regular, reserves or cadet forces. A Lord Lieutenant and their Deputes can also be involved in the celebration of centenaries and diamond wedding anniversaries, often presenting the personal greeting card from HM The Queen.
