The inaugural annual Lecture of the Scottish Episcopal Institute (SEI) was given yesterday at New College by Professor Mike Higton, Professor in the Department of Theology and Religion, University of Durham.

The event was attended by the Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Rt Rev Kevin Pearson, Bishop of Argyll and The Isles and Convener of the Institute Council, SEI staff and students, in addition to people from around the Province and students from New College. The lecture, ‘Teaching and Witness in the Life of the Church’, explored the diverse understanding of doctrine within the Anglican church, and how these differing views might be held in tension when witnessing one’s faith to the world.

The lecture concluded with a question and answer session, followed by a reception in the Rainy Hall. The event was co-sponsored by the SEI and the Centre for Theology and Public Issues, New College.
