New director appointed for Place for Hope

July 25, 2016

Ruth Harvey has been appointed as the new Director for Place for Hope with effect from October 2016. Ruth succeeds Hugh Donald, the first Director, who retires from the post in October. Hugh has successfully and skillfully overseen the transition of the organisation from the Church of Scotland, where it had its roots since 2009, into an independent Scottish charity, which was established on 1 April 2015.

Ruth is a skilled trainer, mediator and facilitator in the field of conflict transformation and community dialogue. She has been a member of Place for Hope’s volunteer Team of mediators/facilitators since 2011, and a member of the staff team since 2012. She has been responsible for developing the training programmes and developing partnership relationships with a range of faith communities and peace-making bodies. Ruth is a minister of the Church of Scotland and a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). She has been a member of the Iona Community since 1993, and lives in Cumbria.

Nancy Adams, speaking on behalf of the Trustees, says “having worked with Ruth over the past two years as we ‘transitioned’ into becoming an independent charity, the trustees are confident that Ruth will bring into her new role the leadership skills that she has been nurturing and developing over the past decade, not just in Place for Hope, but also in other projects and organisations with whom she has worked. We look forward to working closely with her as we move into a time when the services we offer seem to be more in demand than ever.”

Place for Hope is a charity which accompanies and equips people to reach their potential to be peacemakers who navigate conflict well. It offers training, workshops and resources for understanding and working through conflict, facilitates sensitive or difficult conversations and accompanies groups during times of crisis and transition and nurtures a network of individuals and organisations committed to the work of peacebuilding in all aspects of life and faith.
