O God make speed to save us;
O Lord make haste to help us.

Glory to God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.

PSALMODY

Antiphon: Where can I go from your Spirit?* Where can I flee from your presence?
(Psalm 139.7)

Opening (from Psalm 139)

1. I will thank you because I am marvellously made;*
your works are wonderful, and I know it well.

2. My body was not hidden from you,*
while I was being made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth.

3. How deep I find your thoughts, O God!*
how great is the sum of them!

4. If I were to count them, they would be more in number than the sand;*
to count them all, my life span would need to be like yours.

or a suitable Hymn

Psalm 7
1. O Lord my God, I take refuge in you; *
save and deliver me from all who pursue me;
2. lest like a lion they tear me in pieces *
and snatch me away with none to deliver me.
3. O Lord my God, if I have done these things; *
if there is any wickedness in my hands,
4. if I have repaid my friend with evil, *
or plundered anyone who without cause is my enemy;
5. then let my enemy pursue and overtake me, *
trample my life into the ground, and lay my honour in the dust.
6. Stand up, O Lord, in your wrath; rise up against the fury of my enemies. *
Awake, O my God, decree justice.
7. Let the assembly of the peoples gather round you. *
Be seated on your lofty throne, O Most High.
8. O Lord, judge the nations. *
Give judgement for me according to my righteousness, O Lord, and according to my innocence, O Most High.
9. Let the malice of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; *
for you test the mind and heart, O righteous God.
10. You are my shield and defence, *
the saviour of the true in heart.
11. You are a righteous judge *
and sit in judgement every day.
12. If they will not repent, you will whet the sword *
and will bend the bow and make it ready.
13. You have prepared weapons of death *
and make arrows shafts of fire.
14. Look at those who are in labour with wickedness, *
who conceive evil, and give birth to a lie.
15. They dig a pit and make it deep *
and fall into the hole that they have made.
16. Their malice turns back upon their own head; *
their violence falls on their own scalp.
17. I will bear witness that the Lord is righteous;*
I will praise the name of the Lord Most High.

READING(S)

Luke 6:17-31

He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them. Then he looked up at his disciples and said: ‘Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. ‘Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. ‘Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. ‘Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you* on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice on that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. ‘But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. ‘Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. ‘Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. ‘Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. ‘But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Response Psalm 105.5

Remember the marvels the Lord has done.
Remember the marvels the Lord has done.
The wonders and the judgements of the mouth of the Lord.
What wonders God has done!
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Remember the marvels the Lord has done.

SONG OF MARY

Song of Mary Antiphon: Abide with us, Lord, * for it is [towards] evening, and the day is far spent.

1 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
*my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
2 for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant;*
from this day all generations will call me blessed.
3 The Almighty has done great things for me*
and holy is his name.
4 He has mercy on those who fear him*
in every generation.
5 He has shown the strength of his arm;*
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
6 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones*
and has lifted up the lowly.
7 He has filled the hungry with good things,*
and the rich he has sent away empty.
8 He has come to the help of his servant Israel,*
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
9 the promise he made to our forebears,*
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father... (may be said by all)

PRAYERS

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day

O Lord,
watch over your household with constant love:
that with you as our shelter
your family may be free from all distress,
and devoted to good works for the glory of your name;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen

Lord God almighty, come and dispel the darkness from our hearts, that in the radiance of your brightness we may know you, the only unfading light, glorious in all eternity.
Amen.

Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!

The God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing:
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
