Pentecost 3

O God make speed to save us;
O Lord make haste to help us.

Glory to God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.
Amen.

PSALMODY

Antiphon: As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,* so our eyes look to you, O Lord our God.
Psalm 123.2f

Opening (from Psalm 119)

1. Your faithfulness remains from one generation to another;*
you established the earth, and it abides.

2. By your decree these continue to this day,*
for all things are your servants.

3. I will never forget your commandments,*
because by them you give me life.

4. I see that all things come to an end,*
but your commandment has no bounds.

Psalm 147
1. Hallelujah! How good it is to sing praises to our God! *
How pleasant it is to honour God with praise!

2. The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem *
and gathers the exiles of Israel.

3. The Lord heals the brokenhearted *
and binds up their wounds.

4. The Lord counts the number of stars *
and calls them all by their names.

5. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; *
there is no limit to the wisdom of God.

6. The Lord lifts up the lowly, *
but casts the wicked to the ground.

7. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; *
make music to our God upon the harp.

8. The Lord covers the heavens with clouds *and prepares rain for the earth,
making grass to grow upon the mountains * and green plants to serve humankind.

9. The Lord provides food for flocks and herds *
and for the young ravens when they cry.

10. The Lord is not impressed by the might of a horse *
and has no pleasure in human strength,

11. but finds pleasure in those who fear God, *
in those who await the gracious favour of the Lord.

12. Worship the Lord, O Jerusalem; *
praise your God, O Zion,

13. who has strengthened the bars of your gates, *
who has blessed your children within you.

14. For the Lord has established peace on your borders *
and satisfies you with the finest wheat.

15. The Lord sends out a command to the earth, *
and this word runs very swiftly.

16. The Lord gives snow like wool *
and scatters hoarfrost like ashes

17. and hail like bread-crumbs; *
who can stand against such cold?

18. The Lord sends forth the word and melts them, *
blowing with the wind and the waters flow.

19. The Lord declares the word to Jacob, *
statutes and judgements to Israel.

20. The Lord has not done so to any other nation; *
to them these judgements have not been revealed.
Hallelujah!

Glory …

READING(S)

Matthew 28.16-20

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

Silence

Response Psalm 119.89

O Lord, your word is everlasting.
O Lord, your word is everlasting.
It stands firm in the heavens.
Your word is everlasting.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Lord, your word is everlasting.

SONG OF MARY

Song of Mary Antiphon: Abide with us, Lord, * for it is [towards] evening, and the day is far spent.

1 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
*my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
2 for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant;*
from this day all generations will call me blessed.
3 The Almighty has done great things for me*
and holy is his name.
4 He has mercy on those who fear him*
in every generation.
5 He has shown the strength of his arm;*
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
6 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones*
and has lifted up the lowly.
7 He has filled the hungry with good things,*
and the rich he has sent away empty.
8 He has come to the help of his servant Israel,*
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
9 the promise he made to our forebears,*
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father... (may be said by all)

PRAYERS

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day

O God, the protector of all who trust in you,
without whom nothing can be whole
and nothing can be holy:
increase your mercy towards us,
that, with you as our ruler and guide,
we may so enjoy the good things of time,
as not to lose the things of eternity;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen

Lord God almighty, come and dispel the darkness from our hearts, that in the radiance of your brightness we may know you, the only unfading light, glorious in all eternity.
Amen.

Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!

The God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing:
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
