O God make speed to save us;
O Lord make haste to help us.

Glory to God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever.
Amen.

PSALMODY

Antiphon: O Lord my God, how excellent is your greatness!* you are clothed with majesty and splendour.
(Psalm 104.1)

Opening (from Psalm 104.1)

1. You appointed the moon to mark the seasons,*
and the sun knows the time of its setting.

2. You make darkness that it may be night,*
in which all the beasts of the forest prowl.

3. May your glory, O Lord, endure for ever;*
may you rejoice in all his works.

4. May these words of mine please you;*
I will rejoice in the Lord.

or a suitable Hymn

Psalm 29
1. Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, *
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

2. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due the divine name; *
worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

3. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; *
the Lord is upon the mighty waters.

4. The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; *
the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendour.

5. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; *
the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon,

6. and makes Lebanon skip like a calf, *
and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox.

7. The voice of the Lord *
splits the flames of fire;

8. the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; *
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
9. The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe and strips the forests bare. *
And in the temple of the Lord all are crying, “Glory!”

10. The Lord sits enthroned above the flood; *
the Lord sits enthroned as sovereign for evermore.

11. The Lord shall give strength to this people; *
the Lord shall give this people the blessing of peace.

Glory …

Psalm 30
1. I will exalt you, O Lord, because you have lifted me up*
and have not let my enemies triumph over me.

2. O Lord my God, I cried out to you, *
and you restored me to health.

3. You brought me up, O Lord, from the dead; *
you restored my life as I was going down to the grave.

4. Sing to the Lord, you servants of God; *
give thanks for the remembrance of the holiness of God.

5. For the wrath of God endures but the twinkling of an eye, the divine favour for a lifetime. *
Weeping may spend the night, but joy comes in the morning.

6. While I felt secure, I said,*
“I shall never be disturbed.

7. Lord, with your favour, you made me as strong as the mountains.” *
Then you hid your face, and I was filled with fear.

8. I cried to you, O Lord; *
I pleaded with you, saying,

9. “What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit? *
Will the dust praise you or declare your faithfulness?

10. Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me; *
O Lord, be my helper.”

11. You have turned my wailing into dancing; *
you have put off my sack-cloth and clothed me with joy.

12. Therefore my heart sings to you without ceasing; *
O Lord my God, I will give you thanks for ever.

Conclusion

from 1 John 4

1. Beloved let us love one another,*
for love is of God;

2. And those who love are born of God*
and know God.

3. Those who do not love do not know God,*
for God is love.

4. In this the love of God was made manifest among us,*
that God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.

5 In this is love: not that we loved God,*
but that God loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.

6. Beloved, if God so loved us,*
we also ought to love one another.

READING(S)

Luke 24.36-53

"While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, ‘Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.’ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence. Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’ Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God."

Response Psalm. 119.105

Your word is a lantern to my feet.
Your word is a lantern to my feet.
A light upon my path.
A lantern to my feet.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Your word is a lantern to my feet.

SONG OF MARY

Song of Mary Antiphon: Those who wait upon the Lord: * will be saved.

1 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
*my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
2 for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant;*
from this day all generations will call me blessed.
3 The Almighty has done great things for me*
and holy is his name.
4 He has mercy on those who fear him*
in every generation.
5 He has shown the strength of his arm;*
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
6 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones*
and has lifted up the lowly.
7 He has filled the hungry with good things,*
and the rich he has sent away empty.
8 He has come to the help of his servant Israel,*
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
9 the promise he made to our forebears,*
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father... (may be said by all)

PRAYERS

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day

O Lord, let the world be ordered in peace,
according to your will:
that your people may be free to worship you with joy;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen

Lord God almighty, come and dispel the darkness from our hearts, that in the radiance of your brightness we may know you, the only unfading light, glorious in all eternity.
Amen.

Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!

The God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing:
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
