PSALMODY

Antiphon: Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation All things have been created through Christ and for Christ.
(Colossians 1.15,16)

Opening (from Psalm 19.1-4)

1. The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

2. Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.

3. There is no speech, nor are there words;
their voice is not heard;

4. Yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.

Psalm 26
1. Give judgement for me, O Lord, for I have lived with integrity; *
I have trusted in you and have not faltered.
2.Test me, O Lord, and try me; *
examine my heart and my mind.
3. For your love is before my eyes; *
I have walked faithfully with you.
4. I have not sat with the worthless, *
nor do I consort with the deceitful.
5. I have hated the company of evildoers; *
I will not sit down with the wicked.
6. I will wash my hands in innocence, O Lord, *
that I may go in procession round your altar,
7. singing aloud a song of thanksgiving *
and recounting all your wonderful deeds.
8. Lord, I love the house in which you dwell *
and the place where your glory abides.
9. Do not sweep me away with sinners, *
nor my life with those who thirst for blood,
10. whose hands are full of evil plots, *
and whose hands full of bribes.
11. As for me, I will live with integrity; *
redeem me, O Lord, and have pity on me.
12. My foot stands on level ground; *
in the full assembly I will bless the Lord.

Glory …

Psalm 28
1. O Lord, I call to you; my rock, do not be deaf to my cry;*
lest, if you do not hear me, I become like those who go down to the pit.
2. Hear the voice of my prayer when I cry out to you, *
when I lift up my hands to your holy of holies.
3. Do not snatch me away with the wicked or with the evildoers, *
who speak peaceably with their neighbours, while strife is in their hearts.
4. Repay them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their actions. *
According to the work of their hands repay them, and give them their just deserts.
5. They have no understanding of your doings, nor of the works of your hands; therefore you will break them down *
and not build them up.
6. Blessed are you, O Lord! *
For you have heard the voice of my prayer.
7. O Lord, you are my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in you, and I have been helped; *
therefore my heart dances for joy, and in my song will I praise you.
8. You are the strength of your people, *
a safe refuge for your anointed.
9. Save your people and bless your inheritance; *
shepherd them and carry them for ever.

READING(S)

Mark 16:1-8, (9-20)

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Now after he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. She went out and told those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. Later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table; and he upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.

Response John 1

Through God’s Word all things were made.
Through God’s Word all things were made.
In the Word is life
And the life is the light of all people.
Glory to God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit.
Through God’s Word all things were made.

SONG OF MARY

Song of Mary Antiphon: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork. (Psalm 19.1)

1 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
*my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
2 for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant;*
from this day all generations will call me blessed.
3 The Almighty has done great things for me*
and holy is his name.
4 He has mercy on those who fear him*
in every generation.
5 He has shown the strength of his arm;*
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
6 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones*
and has lifted up the lowly.
7 He has filled the hungry with good things,*
and the rich he has sent away empty.
8 He has come to the help of his servant Israel,*
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
9 the promise he made to our forebears,*
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father... (may be said by all)

PRAYERS

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
