O God make speed to save us;
O Lord make haste to help us.

PSALMODY

Antiphon: As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,* so our eyes look to you, O Lord our God.
Psalm 123.2f

Opening (from Psalm 119)

1. Your faithfulness remains from one generation to another;*
you established the earth, and it abides.

2. By your decree these continue to this day,*
for all things are your servants.

3. I will never forget your commandments,*
because by them you give me life.

4. I see that all things come to an end,*
but your commandment has no bounds.

Psalm 7
1. O Lord my God, I take refuge in you; *
save and deliver me from all who pursue me;
2. lest like a lion they tear me in pieces *
and snatch me away with none to deliver me.
3. O Lord my God, if I have done these things; *
if there is any wickedness in my hands,
4. if I have repaid my friend with evil, *
or plundered anyone who without cause is my enemy;
5. then let my enemy pursue and overtake me, *
trample my life into the ground, and lay my honour in the dust.
6. Stand up, O Lord, in your wrath; rise up against the fury of my enemies. *
Awake, O my God, decree justice.
7. Let the assembly of the peoples gather round you. *
Be seated on your lofty throne, O Most High.
8. O Lord, judge the nations. *
Give judgement for me according to my righteousness, O Lord, and according to my innocence, O Most High.
9. Let the malice of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; *
for you test the mind and heart, O righteous God.
10. You are my shield and defence, *
the saviour of the true in heart.
11. You are a righteous judge *
and sit in judgement every day.
12. If they will not repent, you will whet the sword *
and will bend the bow and make it ready.
13. You have prepared weapons of death *
and make arrows shafts of fire.
14. Look at those who are in labour with wickedness, *
who conceive evil, and give birth to a lie.
15. They dig a pit and make it deep *
and fall into the hole that they have made.
16. Their malice turns back upon their own head; *
their violence falls on their own scalp.
17. I will bear witness that the Lord is righteous;*
I will praise the name of the Lord Most High.

Conclusion

Revelation 5 and 15

1. Great and wonderful are your deeds, Lord God the Almighty;*
just and true are your ways, O King of the ages!

2. Who shall not revere and praise your name, O Lord?*
for you alone are holy.

3. All nations shall come and worship in your presence,*
for your just dealings have been revealed.

4. To God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb*
be praise and honour, glory and might, for ever and ever. Amen.

READING(S)

Wisdom of Solomon 5.1-5,14-16

Then the righteous will stand with great confidence in the presence of those who have oppressed them and those who make light of their labours. When the unrighteous see them, they will be shaken with dreadful fear, and they will be amazed at the unexpected salvation of the righteous. They will speak to one another in repentance, and in anguish of spirit they will groan, and say, ‘These are persons whom we once held in derision and made a byword of reproach—fools that we were! We thought that their lives were madness and that their end was without honour. Why have they been numbered among the children of God? And why is their lot among the saints? Because the hope of the ungodly is like thistledown carried by the wind, and like a light frost driven away by a storm; it is dispersed like smoke before the wind, and it passes like the remembrance of a guest who stays but a day. But the righteous live for ever, and their reward is with the Lord; the Most High takes care of them. Therefore they will receive a glorious crown and a beautiful diadem from the hand of the Lord, because with his right hand he will cover them, and with his arm he will shield them.

Revelation 21.1-4,22-22.5

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.’ I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. Its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. People will bring into it the glory and the honour of the nations. But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practises abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign for ever and ever.

Response Psalm 119.89

O Lord, your word is everlasting.
O Lord, your word is everlasting.
It stands firm in the heavens.
Your word is everlasting.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Lord, your word is everlasting.

SONG OF MARY

Song of Mary Antiphon: God looks with favour * on those who are faithful in service.

1 My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
*my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
2 for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant;*
from this day all generations will call me blessed.
3 The Almighty has done great things for me*
and holy is his name.
4 He has mercy on those who fear him*
in every generation.
5 He has shown the strength of his arm;*
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
6 He has cast down the mighty from their thrones*
and has lifted up the lowly.
7 He has filled the hungry with good things,*
and the rich he has sent away empty.
8 He has come to the help of his servant Israel,*
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
9 the promise he made to our forebears,*
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father... (may be said by all)

PRAYERS

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day

O God, the protector of all who trust in you,
without whom nothing can be whole
and nothing can be holy:
increase your mercy towards us,
that, with you as our ruler and guide,
we may so enjoy the good things of time,
as not to lose the things of eternity;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen

Lord God almighty, come and dispel the darkness from our hearts, that in the radiance of your brightness we may know you, the only unfading light, glorious in all eternity.
Amen.

Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!

The God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing:
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
