THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD
O Lord, open our lips:
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Glory to God, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.
Amen.
PSALMODY
Antiphon: The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice:* let the multitude of the isles be glad. (Psalm 97.1)
Opening
Glory ...
or a suitable Hymn
(Or from Psalm 97)
1. You are the Lord, most high over all the earth;*
you are exalted far above all gods.
2. The Lord loves those who hate evil;*
preserving the lives of the saints and delivering them from the hand of the wicked.
3. Light has sprung up for the righteous,*
and joyful gladness for those who are truehearted.
4. Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous.*
and give thanks to the holy name of the Lord.
Glory ...
or a suitable hymn
shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life; * of whom then shall
I be afraid?
2. When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, *
it was they, my foes and my adversaries, who stumbled
and fell.
3. Though an army should encamp against me, * yet my
heart shall not be afraid;
and though war should rise up against me,* yet will I
put my trust in God.
4. One thing have I asked of the Lord; one thing I seek;
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of
my life, *
beholding the fair beauty of the Lord and seeking God
in the temple.
5. For in the day of trouble, O God, you shall keep me safe
in your shelter; *
you shall hide me in the secrecy of your dwelling and
set me high upon a rock.
6. Even now you lift up my head above my enemies round
about me. Therefore I will offer in your dwelling *
an oblation with sounds of great gladness; I will sing
and make music to the Lord.
7. Hearken to my voice, O Lord, when I call; *
have mercy on me and answer me.
8. You speak in my heart and say , “Seek my face.” *
Your face, Lord, will I seek.
9. Hide not your face from me, nor turn away your servant
in displeasure. *
You have been my helper; cast me not away; do not
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10. Though my father and my mother forsake me, *
the Lord will sustain me.
11. Show me your way, O Lord; *
lead me on a level path, because of my enemies.
12. Deliver me not into the hand of my adversaries, *
for false witnesses have risen up against me, and also
those who speak malice.
13. What if I had not believed that I should see the
goodness of the Lord *
in the land of the living!
14. O tarry and await the pleasure of the Lord; be strong,
and God shall comfort your heart; *
wait patiently for the Lord.
Glory ...

bought with the price of your own blood.
14. And bring us with your saints*
to glory everlasting.
Glory ...
The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice:* let the multitude of the isles be glad.
READING(S)
Exodus 24.12-18
Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the cloud. Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
2 Corinthians 3.1-9,18
Such is the confidence that we have through Christ towards God. Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Now if the ministry of death, chiselled in letters on stone tablets, came in glory so that the people of Israel could not gaze at Moses’ face because of the glory of his face, a glory now set aside, how much more will the ministry of the Spirit come in glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, much more does the ministry of justification abound in glory! And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.
Silence
Response (Psalm 89.1)
Your love, O Lord, for ever will I sing.
Your love, O Lord, for ever will I sing.
My mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness.
Throughout all generations.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Your love, O Lord, for ever will I sing.
SONG OF ZECHARIAH
Song of Zechariah Antiphon: You will guide us with your counsel, O God: * and, after, receive us with glory. Righteousness and justice* * are the foundation of your throne.
1 Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel,*
for he has come to his people and set them free.
2 He has raised up for us a mighty saviour,*
born of the house of his servant David.
3 Through his holy prophets he promised of old*
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all that hate us.
4 He promised to show mercy to our forebears,*
and to remember his holy covenant.
5 This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:*
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
6 free to worship him without fear,*
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
7 You my child shall be called the prophet of the Most High,*
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
8 to give his people knowledge of salvation*
by the forgiveness of all their sins.
9 In the tender compassion of our God*
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
10 to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,*
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Song of Zechariah Antiphon: You will guide us with your counsel, O God: * and, after, receive us with glory. Righteousness and justice* * are the foundation of your throne.
PRAYERS
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
Amen
Collect of the Day
Almighty and everlasting God,who revealed the glory of your beloved Son
when he was transfigured on the holy mountain:
mercifully grant us such a vision of his divine majesty,
that, being purified and strengthened by your grace,
we may be transformed into his likeness, from glory to glory;
through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen
God most holy, we give you thanks for bringing us out of the shadow of night into the light of morning; and we ask you for the joy of spending this day in your service, so that when evening comes, we may once more give you thanks, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.
Amen
Let us bless the Lord:
Thanks be to God!
The Lord bless us and preserve us from all evil;
and bring us to life eternal.
Amen.
