Porvoo Communion of Churches

November 9, 2016

The Scottish Episcopal Church is a member of the Porvoo Communion of Churches which recently held its 5th Theological Conference in Riga, Latvia with the theme, The Spirit of God in the Life of the World: What is the Spirit saying to the Churches?

The conference took place at a significant time. The Porvoo Declaration was first signed 20 years ago and the participants were able to reflect on what has been achieved and on new ways to be a missionary church in the changing and challenging circumstances in Europe due to secularism, the difficulty of communicating the Christian faith effectively and the adjustments needed across Europe arising from recent migration.

At the conference the publication Towards Closer Unity: Communion of the Porvoo Churches 20 Years (Ed.  Beate Fagerli, Leslie Nathaniel and Tomi Karttunen (2016)) was published to mark the 20 year anniversary of the Porvoo Common Statement of the Porvoo Communion of Churches. The publication includes articles, speeches and communiques from the theological conferences.

The Communiqué from the conference and further details about the commemoration book can be found at http://www.porvoocommunion.org/resources/documents-from-conferences-and-consultations/
