October 1, 2015

An historic interfaith meeting involving all four Anglican Primates of Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England and members of the Welsh Muslim community will take place in Cardiff today. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will be the keynote speaker at the event organised by the Muslim Council of Wales and chaired by First Minister Carwyn Jones.

Joining the Archbishop of Canterbury will be the Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, The Most Rev David Chillingworth; the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, and Archbishop Richard Clarke of Ireland who will all be in St Michael’s College, Cardiff for a meeting of the primates of the European region of the Anglican Communion.

The event entitled: “Working for the Common Good: A Christian & Islamic Perspective” is being held to mark National Interfaith Week and will also mark the 10th anniversary of Cardiff University’s renowned Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK.

The faith leaders leaders said they hoped it would send a message across Wales, the UK and internationally that inter-faith relations in Britain are strong, despite global tensions.
