The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Rev Mark Strange, is the new representative of the Europe Region on the Primates’ Standing Committee of the Anglican Communion.
Bishop Mark replaces Archbishop John McDowell of the Church of Ireland, who stands down this month.
The Primates’ Standing Committee comprises five representatives. It plans and sets the agenda for the Primates’ Meeting – one of the four Instruments of Communion. This role is critical in fostering dialogue and attempting to forge consensus on behalf of the Communion.
“I am pleased to find myself in this place,” said the Primus. “The Anglican Communion is important to us and being asked to serve in this way is a special moment for me after nine years of rebuilding trust and friendships across the Communion.”
The four other regions represented on the Primates’ Standing Committee are the Americas (Most Rev Marinez Bassotto, Brazil), Africa (Most Rev Jackson Ole Sapit, Kenya), Middle East & South Asia (Most Rev Azad Marshall, Pakistan) and Oceania & East Asia (Most Rev Leonard Dawea, Melanesia).
