Vacancy: Director of Studies, Scottish Episcopal Institute

The Scottish Episcopal Institute (SEI) seeks to appoint a new Director of Studies. The former Director of Studies assumed the role of Principal on 1 July. The Director of Studies oversees all elements of SEI’s dispersed, part-residential, formation-led training course that are validated under the Common Awards scheme via Durham University in Initial Ministerial Education (IME); acts as the senior tutor and so leads the teaching staff; teaches on all levels from certificate to master’s qualifications and leads the MA programmes in Theology, Ministry and Mission, and Worship and Liturgical Studies; and supervises and marks bachelor’s and master’s dissertations. In addition to IME, SEI provides a range of training and support for lay and ordained members of the Scottish Episcopal Church to which the Director of Studies contributes. The post is based in Edinburgh with some flexibility for home working from another location in Scotland.

Candidates applying for the post will have:

  • an earned doctorate in Christian theology or biblical studies
  • a demonstrable commitment to theological reflection and ministerial formation in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition
  • experience in the formation of those entering ordained and lay ministries
  • experience in higher-education teaching and/or tutoring
  • an ongoing commitment to research and publishing in own’s area of theological subject area
