The Scottish Episcopal Institute (SEI) is seeking a six-month fixed-term Interim Principal to guide the institution through a time of transition. In the past few months, this theological education institute (TEI) has experienced the departure of the previous Principal and a change of location.

The Interim Principal, working with colleagues in SEI, the Institute Council, and in the General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church (GSofSEC) will provide strategic, operational and pastoral leadership for SEI during this ongoing time of transition. The postholder will work collaboratively with staff and key stakeholders to maintain the academic and formational activities of SEI, strengthen governance, review structures and processes, and ensure the Institute is well positioned for future sustainability and development.

Appointment details

  • Salary – £57,322-£64,527 Grade 8. New starts are normally placed on the first increment of the grade unless experience and skills justify a higher placing.
  • Contract – Fixed term, for six months. Given the time limited nature of the role, secondments are welcome provided applicants have the approval of their employer at the time of application.
  • Hours – 35 hours per week across 5 days (0.8 FTE or 28 hours will also be considered). Some occasional evening or weekend work may be required, with time off in lieu.
  • Location – Ground Floor West, 40 Torphichen Street, Edinburgh EH3 8JB. Hybrid working is our default work pattern, with a minimum of 1-2 days a week in the office.
  • Annual leave – 28 days plus 10 public holidays. Pro-rated for fixed term and part-time staff.
