Consecration of new Bishop to take place on 1 May

April 20, 2021

The consecration of The Rev Canon Dr Keith Riglin as the new Bishop of Argyll & The Isles is to take place on Saturday 1 May at St John’s Cathedral, Oban, starting at 2pm.

Covid restrictions will limit the numbers able to attend the ceremony, but the new Bishop will be joined by the Primus, The Most Rev Mark Strange, other members of the College of Bishops, Diocesan clergy, and a small number of his invited friends and family.

Members of all local charges and others from across the province and beyond will be invited to attend via a live stream of the ceremony. Anyone who would like to join online should make their request to the Diocesan office by Wednesday 28 April at office@argyll.anglican.org

The service will also be recorded and then broadcast on the Diocesan website and Facebook page over the weekend.

The new Bishop will celebrate and preach at St John’s Cathedral on Sunday 2 May. At a later date, dependent on Covid restrictions, he will be enthroned at The Cathedral of The Isles on Cumbrae.

In January this year, Canon Riglin was selected by the Electoral Synod from a short-list of three candidates, to fill the vacancy brought about by the translation of the Rt Rev Kevin Pearson to the Diocese of Glasgow & Galloway last year. Full story here.

The College of Bishops will now have a full complement of seven Bishops for the first time since 2016.
