Service of thanksgiving to mark 148 years of the SEC Mission Association

October 23, 2023

Following the decision to bring to a close the Scottish Episcopal Church Mission Association (SECMA) after 148 years, a service of thanksgiving for the work of supporters, volunteers and staff will take place on Saturday 4 November at 11.30am at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh.

Gill Campbell, convener of the SECMA trustees committee wrote by way of invitation: “As well as joyfully giving thanks to God, the Most Rev Dr Mark Strange will be preaching, a Ugandan family will be singing and we will hear about SECMA’s far-reaching impact past, present and future. A light lunch will follow giving the opportunity to enjoy further fellowship and learn more about SECMA’s achievements and how its funds are currently improving lives. For catering purposes it will be good to have an idea of numbers attending so please let me know by Tuesday 30th Oct.”

You can inform the organisers of your attendance by email by clicking here.

In April, on announcing the winding up of the charity, the SECMA committee said: “Some SECMA funds will be channelled through well-equipped organisations including the Mother’s Union, Tearfund and Mary’s Meals to projects meeting SECMA’s values. We want to thank all supporters and friends of SECMA who, for over a century and a half, have been the bedrock and engine room of missions, prayer, giving and change across the world.”
