The Rev Aaron Moffat-Jackman, Priest-in-Charge at St Peter’s Episcopal Church, Musselburgh, offered a reflection for BBC Radio 2’s Pause for Thought last night, on Holocaust Memorial Day.
Highlighting Jewish persecution during the Second World War, and the fact that people are still persecuted 80 years later, Mr Moffat-Jackman (pictured) told listeners: “It’s at times like this that I am drawn to the teachings of Jesus, himself a Jew. He said that the greatest commandment, besides loving God, is to love my neighbour as myself, and it reminds me that I must play my part in making this world a better place.
“My neighbour might not be persecuted or oppressed, but it’s still my job to love whoever is near me, to make a difference where I Iive.
“And so if today, Holocaust Memorial Day, has given me anything, it’s hope. Hope in the goodness of humanity. And hope that one day, all people will be free.”
